About the Festival
QPAC's Out of the Box Festival is one of the longest running kids festivals in Australia. In 2018, it is five days of in-theatre experiences, workshops, activities and exhibitions for the cost of a single Day Pass. Check out the About page on our website for more information.
Out of the Box Festival is presented by and held at QPAC, which opened in 1985.
Out of the Box Festival 2018 runs from Tuesday 26 June 2018 to Sunday 1 July 2018, excluding Friday 29 June 2018.
QPAC is situated in the Queensland Cultural Centre in the heart of South Bank, Brisbane. Find out more about getting to the Festival.
Gates to the Festival open at 8.30am, but programming doesn't start until 9am. Programming ends at 2pm but QPAC’s doors are open into the evening.
This year we have introduced the Day Pass so you can enjoy an entire day of discovery. Our program is full of workshops and other activities that complement the in-theatre experiences, and we want everyone to have the opportunity to experience both.
Check out all the in-theatre experiences, workshops and activities on offer at Out of the Box Festival via our Events page. You can alter your search by filtering it by Event Type and Recommended Age. The only way to attend these events is by purchasing a Day Pass to the Festival. You cannot purchase tickets to singular shows.
In 2018, all events are incorporated into and accessible when a Day Pass is purchased.
Out of the Box Festival is ticketed by QTIX. QTIX is a Queensland-based ticketing services provider that is owned and operated by QPAC. Tickets to all QPAC events are sold through QTIX. Tickets can be purchased by phone, online or mail as well as in person at the QPAC Box Office and other ticket outlets. QTIX also provides ticketing services for events staged in venues other than QPAC.
The only way to attend Out of the Box Festival is to purchase a Day Pass. A Day Pass allows you to plan your day and gives you access to a full day of discovery. To get the most out of your experience, we suggest you select one in-theatre experience, one or two workshops/activities and plan to drop-in to Play Spaces, Home and Jarjum Life Museum when planning your day. Please note, Air Play, The Arrival and Duck have reserved seating. You will be issued with a ticket for these events. All in-theatre experiences, workshops and activities have limited capacity and are subject to availability.
No. You can buy as many as you like. If you are purchasing 10 or more tickets, please contact our groups sales team.
In 2018, you can access one or more specific shows with the purchase of a Day Pass.
Children 4 months and over are required to have a Day Pass as there are in-theatre experiences, workshops and activities programmed just for them. Children 4 months and under do not require a Day Pass and are free on the knee.
Each booking transaction must follow the same Day Plan. So, for example, if you book your family of four through one transaction, you will all need to follow the same Day Plan. However, if you split up your booking into two groups of two, you can do separate Day Plans.
In 2018, all Out of the Box Festival in-theatre experiences, workshops and activities are allocated seating or allocated spaces on a first come first served basis. However, if you or someone in your group has special needs, please contact qtix on 136 246 to make your booking.
For any other ticketing enquiries not listed above, please visit QPAC's FAQs page.
No. Once you have purchased your Day Pass, unfortunately there are no cancellations, exchanges or refunds. If you change your mind on the day, we cannot guarantee that we can accommodate your changes.
Online bookings are unavailable on the day you wish to attend the Festival, however you can book over the phone or in person providing the Day Pass allocation hasn’t been exhausted. Simply visit QPAC in person or call 136 246.
You would have only received tickets to Air Play, The Arrival or Duck as these in-theatre experiences have allocated seating. All other events at Out of the Box Festival do not require allocated seating and as such, you don’t need a ticket. However, by using the Day Plan to book into a session, you are guaranteed a space. On the day, make sure you bring along your Day Plan, Day Pass and any tickets to Air Play, The Arrival or Duck if you booked into these.
Before you Get Here
We encourage you to take public transport to get to the Out of the Box Festival. Visit our Getting Here page for more information.
When purchasing your Day Pass, you will also be asked to complete our Day Plan. By simply letting us know the day you wish to visit the Festival, as well as the age of the children you're bringing, we'll recommend the best in-theatre experiences, workshops and activities to do. If you're still unsure what to choose, feel free to refer to one of our sample day plans. If all looks as expected, you will then be served and emailed your final Day Plan.
